The total land area of Jordan is about 89.3 thousand km, including the Dead Sea and is divided into three climatic geographic areas: the Jordan Valley, the upland, and Eastern Badia.
Jordan Valley is the most fertile part of Jordan and extends from the northern border of the Kingdom down to the Dead Sea with altitudes ranging from 220 m below sea level in the north and 407 m below sea level at the Dead Sea. Upland stretches from north to south in the western part of Jordan, and separates the Jordan Valley from the eastern desert region. The altitude of this land ranges between 600 -1500 m above sea level and receives the largest amount of rainfall in Jordan and has the widest natural vegetation cover. In addition to that, it is home to about 90% of the population of Jordan.
The eastern desert covers about 88% of the total area of Jordan, and the altitude of the land ranges between 600 and 900 meters above sea level. The temperatures vary strongly between day and night and between summer and winter. Also the rate of rainfall does not exceed 100 mm per year.
